Here in Taylor Utah, you can’t help but avoid nature. Ask the ones who know me best and they will say I am not in any way an animal person and to be completely honest I don't care about animals; I think they are gross. However, last night I had a very unique encounter with a very unique kind of creature.
I was driving home at about midnight last night, it was a full moon and I was listening to the Big River soundtrack (the Huck Fin soundtrack, you cant get much more naturalistic than the song "River in the Rain") and in the dim glow of my headlights I saw a large ball of fur in the middle of the road and I slammed on my brakes hoping the creature would move before I came to a complete stop but it didn’t and I barley stopped in time. Worried that I have pined the creature between my tire and the road I look out my side windows to see if I can see it. Then, as if coming from out of the hood of my car a giant owl erupts and begins to hover over my windshield. Its head turned 180 degrees to look me straight in the eyes and then began to fly forward as I followed in my car. Then it slowed down to fly along side me all the way down the road until I turned onto my Grandmas street.
I don’t mean to be overly dramatic about this situation but I love how sometimes nature just pulls you over sometimes in life and forces you to stop and think for a minute. What a beautiful experience.
